Nikolaus August Otto lived in an exciting and innovative period in our industrial history, and although Lenoir and other engineers made important contributions to engine development, it is Otto who is known as the “Creator of the Internal Combustion Engine”.  His achievement was considerable, particularly for a man quite unknown  and completely inexperienced  in engineering technology

 

1867 Atmospharische Gaskraftmaschine from N.A.Otto and E.Langen.  0.5hp at 80rpm. This was the first truly successful internal combustion engine and it solved the problem of power for light industry.

Otto Engine Gasmotoren-Fabrik Deutz AG 1876 famous as the first four-cycle internal combustion engine.  This is the engine which became the basis for the motorisation of the world.

These two models are exact replicas of the original engines and are intricately crafted and accurate in every detail. They are cast in modern-day pewter (tin - lead free) and are offered in an authentic painted finish with bare metal gears and other polished parts.
