The Bristol Jupiter was the most successful aero engine of the1920s. Bristol engines powered Britain’s national airline, more than half the Royal Air Force and about half the other airlines and air forces of the world. In total it powered 252 different types of airplanes. A figure that will never be duplicated. On the 26th May 1929, a new world absolute altitude record of 41,790 feet was set by Willi Neuenhofen, flying a Junkers W.34 monoplane, powered by a Jupiter VI.
